Chevy Classics!

Chevrolet used to have an advertising campaign that touted, “Baseball, apple pie, and Chevrolet.” Supposedly, General Motor’s largest division attempted to indoctrinate consumers into believing that a Chevrolet was as mainstream as Main Street, USA. In many ways this campaign worked. For generations now the Chevrolet division has been serving up cars that have been snapped up by Americans, particularly those seeking their first car. Let’s take a look at three Chevy classics that have shaped the respected US automaker.

Corvette – In 1953, the Chevy Corvette was released and the auto market hasn’t been the same since. This two seat ragtop paved the way for greater and lesser cars to enter the US market including Chevy’s own Camaro and Chevelle; Pontiac’s Firebird and GTO; Ford’s Thunderbird and Mustang; the Dodge Charger; Plymouth ‘Cuda; AMC Javelin; Datsun 240Z; and a host of other cars. For over 50 years, the limited production Corvette has been the “halo” car for Chevrolet and is now a favorite of the baby boomer set.

Camaro – One of the original “pony cars” was the Camaro which, along with the similarly designed Pontiac Firebird, was GM’s answer in 1967 to the Ford Mustang. After the 1964½ introduction of the Mustang, GM needed a response…and badly! Pony cars were famous for compact size, speed, and 2+2 seating. Add in a convertible and you had a true California cruiser. After 35 years of production, Chevy discontinued the Camaro while the Mustang is still being made. Good news for Camaro fans: A new Camaro is reportedly set to debut for the 2009 model year.

El Camino – Is it a car or is it a truck? How about: car/truck? Half car and half truck, the El Camino is essentially a car with the rear section converted into a truck bed. Introduced in 1959, the original El Camino was based on the Impala platform, then on the Chevelle, and later on the Malibu chassis. The El Camino was Chevy’s response to the 1957 introduction of the Ford Ranchero, the first production car/truck. Although not meant for heavy duty truck use the El Camino, when equipped with adjustable shock absorbers, was able to carry its share of weight in its bed.

Other cars from Chevy that have been memorable include: the Venture, Nova, Caprice, and Chevelle; while some truly forgettable models include the Chevette, Monza, and Vega.

Chevrolet’s current line up is a far cry from yesteryear’s fleet, but with over 25 cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs models being marketed today, the Chevrolet name continues to impact and shape the American automotive industry.

Chevy Camaro: Build It and We Will Buy It!

Attention, General Motors! The concept Camaro now making the rounds of U.S. auto shows is a real winner. Keep showing the car, but start making plans to get it built...now! Make no changes to the concept; in other words: keep the boardroom geeks away from the project. Yes, GM is looking at bringing back a venerable nameplate – the Chevrolet Camaro. If all goes as planned, a 2009 model Camaro is a strong possibility. Read on for additional interesting tidbits.

Back in the late 1960s, General Motors responded – albeit a little late – to the wildly successful 1964 1/2 launch of the Ford Mustang. A whole new breed of cars were on the market – pony cars – thanks to the Mustang and GM’s release of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird. Indeed, Chrysler and American Motors jumped in too with the Dodge Charger, Plymouth Road Runner, and AMC Javelin competing successfully in a popular automobile segment.

Consumer tastes have changed over the years and the Camaro did not keep up them. Better put, it was GM who did not keep up with the Camaro and it, along with the Firebird, were retired after the 2002 model year. 35 years of Camaro/Firebird history came to a bitter end.

Fortunately for Camaro lovers, it may once again be the hated Mustang that rescues the Camaro. As in the 1960s, GM is witnessing Ford’s big success with its retro looking Mustang and GM wants a piece of the action. Unlike GM, Ford never retired the Mustang name and, instead, gave it a complete makeover that has galvanized sales.

The Camaro making the rounds of the U.S. auto shows is a real beauty. Taking its styling cues from the ’69 Camaro, the proposed ’09 Camaro is expected to feature a 6.0L V8 engine paired with a 6 speed manual transmission. The wheels are 21” at the front and 22” at the back, but smaller wheels are likely to be the production standard. In addition, the Camaro’s interior will hearken back to the original model’s interior and include its famed twin instrument pod.

With a base V6 available, the standard Camaro may retail for just under $20,000, a highly competitive price for an awesome looking two door coupe. Now, if the powers that be within GM can be persuaded to build the car based on the concept, the Camaro will certainly give the Mustang a run for the money and keep the all new (retro) Dodge Challenger from swiping away Camaro loyalists.

Oh, to dream about big things…the Camaro is one car that enthusiasts want to go from concept to completion and soon! GM, are you hearing us?

Chevrolet Camaro Key Chains – Marking Of A New Era

The end of the 19th century marked the beginning of a new era, when the automobile industry was born with the advent of cars powered by engines such as the gas (invented by Gottlieb Daimler) and the internal-combustion engine (designed by Karl Benz). Manufacturers spend billions on research to improve safety, performance and comfort. Customers on the other hand, did go a step forward by modifying the exteriors, interiors and the functioning of the vehicles to customize it to their satisfaction.

Changes to the exterior of the car include preferential alterations to the appearance, paint, stickers, alloy wheels, radial tires, use of mounted fog lamps and the like. The interiors are enhanced by using different materials for the seat covers, dash boards, roof and the works to make it absolutely stylish and comfortable.

Apart from these modification options, there are lots of fashionable accessories available today. Some of these include clothing accessories, eyewear and even designer key chains. Accessories such as the key chains come in so many forms that they have even become collectibles for people with a passion for these.

The Chevy is identified by its trendy “bow-tie” logo seen on all their cars (like the Camaro, Aveo, Corvair, Corvette and Impala), the scale models and on all their accessories such as key chains, hand bags, clothing and eyewear. This logo was introduced in 1913 after Durant saw it on a wall paper in a French hotel.

The Chevrolet Camaro key chain comes in various shapes, sizes and materials namely:

1) Chevrolet Camaro Metal key chain- With different finishes such as chrome, gold-plated and brass and available in different shapes such as round, oval and rectangular these key chains are truly a collectors item. The logo is laser-burned onto the surface to give a spectacular finish to the key chain.

2) Chevrolet Camaro leather key chain- These key chains too come in different shapes with the traditional logo embossed in varying metal finishes and are available in different colors such as black, burgundy and red.

3) Plasticolor Chevrolet Camaro rubberized key chain- These are molded key chains and the attention to detail has resulted in a beautiful wonderful keychain that would perfectly match your style.

4) Flashlight LED key chain- As the name suggests, this key chain comes with a LED-light that helps in inserting the key in dark.

5) Specialized key chains- These are made with some particular models in mind like the photo key chains, scale model key chains and the like. Some of them also carry the depictions of cartoon characters such as Popeye standing beside the car.

6) Camaro key chains in the form of auto parts- These key chains are made to resemble parts of the car such as piston, connecting rod and seat belts and at times make handy bottle or can openers.

Today, cars are not limited to mere modes of transport, but have become a symbol of status and style. Complimenting this view, accessories not only play a vital role in making a style statement but also help the customer bond with his vehicle.

Chevrolet Camaro - The Definitive Muscle Car

The Chevrolet Camaro was a "pony car" introduced by General Motors in 1967 to compete with the Ford Mustang, which by the way was conceived to compete with the Chevrolet Corvair Monza. There are four distinctive generations of Camaro's, 1967-1970, 1970 1/2 - 1980, 1982-1992, and the fourth and final generation was 1993-2002.

The first generation Camaro featured a unibody construction from the windshield to the firewall back and a separate steel frame for everything upfront. The first Chevrolet Camaro was available in both convertible and hardtop styles. There were eighty factory options and 40 dealer options available for the Camaro. The Camaro was offered with engines ranging from a 230 cubic inch six cylinder to a 327 V8.

The first generation SS package was the most popular. It offered a modified 350 cid V8 with an available 396 big block producing 325 hp.

In December of 1966 the famous Z-28 option was introduced. The Z-28 was a base Camaro that came with front disc brakes and power assist and a Muncie 4 speed transmission. The Z-28 also came with broad racing stripes on the hood and trunklid and a competition suspension.

There were minor changes made in the 1968 Camaro such as multi-leaf rear springs. In 1969 the Camaro was redesigned inside as well as outside. The Camaro received a make over including fenders, door skins, grille and taillights to mention only a few. There was a new dash and more comfortable seats. A V8 427 cid was also available.

The second generation of Camaro lost some of it's power due to the tightening emission regulations and a fuel crisis. The 155 hp 250 cubic inch V6 was the standard engine offering. The largest engine available was on the SS mode, a 350 or 375 hp 396 big block V8.

The third generation of Camaro saw the introduction of the IROC-Z, named after the International Race of Champions. Along with unique graphics the IROC featured a Tuned Port Injection that produced 215 hp.

The last year of production for the Camaro was 2002.

Buying Classic Chevy Trucks

Chevy trucks aficionados are not just after the newer trucks built by Chevrolet. They are also into oldies but goodies trucks that have been magnificently preserved for long years. In fact, one can still find Chevy trucks made some 60 to 70 years ago. The vintage sensation that a classic Chevy truck bring is something invaluable.

For so many decades, Chevrolet proved that their makes are still the most loved by Americans. Consider the wonderful cruising that a Chevy truck gives. Plus the unimaginable sensation of driving a Chevy truck off road. Maybe regarded to be as satisfying.

When buying a classic Chevy truck, prefer the 1955-57 models. Chevy trucks during these times are gorgeous, solid and hard. Not to mention the heavy masculine inclination of the designs. Classic Chevy trucks during these years are really worth the price.

Art Deco trucks have its distinctive look for a Chevy truck. These trucks have marvelous front grills. These were made sometime from 1941 to 1946. However, many hot rodders prefer the 1955 to 1957 models.

Chevy trucks of the 1960’s were some what remakes of the 1950’s. Maintaining the muscular details and clean look and cutting only some small details. These trucks were out from 1960 to 1966. The next batch, 1967-1972 Chevy truck models, was more developed in terms of design but with plain
look.

Buying a classic Chevy truck is like purchasing a new one. You need to think of the qualifications and set high standards. You also need to inspect the Chevy trucks for any damage or unwanted parts. Here are suggestions on what to do in inspecting your desired classic Chevy truck:

•    Prepare several questions that will help you in arriving at your desired model. You may ask yourself what year and model you want to purchase, the design, the price, etc.
•    Call the owner or the selling company and ask for the history of the truck. The history includes the age of the truck, the number of times it has undergone repair and so on. Do not rely on the answers on the phone. Visit the company or the owner and propose a test drive. That move will prove whether the seller is really telling the truth.
•    Make an appointment with your mechanic. Tell him that you are to bring a truck for inspection. Make sure you are in the shop during the inspection.
•    Do a general check up on the truck. You may not like your prospective truck to have leaks, rust, old hoses, etc.
•    Look for past repair documentation. This must be provided by the selling company or the owner. This document is very important so that you may not have any hassle to find out what is really wrong with the truck.
•    Set a price according to the inspection, the test drive and the history. Make sure that, whatever price you may end up with, you are still the most benefited.

Remember that you buy a classic Chevy truck not for long distance travel or heavy work loads but only for fun. You buy one to have the unexplainable feelings that other classic Chevy truck owners profess. Make sure also that you are satisfied with the result of the inspection made by your mechanic. Bear in mind also that you are buying a vintage car and not rubbish.

2007 Chevrolet Tahoe: Leaning Towards Safety

The 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe has been designed and crafted by Chevrolet the automobile manufacturer with family safety in mind. Just like any other vehicle from Chevrolet, the 2007 Tahoe has made it a point to be able to perform well as well as provide safety before a crash, during a crash, as well as after a crash. This vehicle comes in three trim levels that comprise of the LS, the LT, and the LTZ.

The 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the first creations of General Motors as per new full size sport utility vehicles. The interior layout of this vehicle is quite symmetrical and very engaging. It also incorporates a build quality that is vastly superior to any other previous vehicles crafted by the company. The vehicle had dropped off the hard plastic trim framing controls and put in its place modern and cohesive construction that provides and exudes a more European look. The new interior holds beautiful import materials thus providing a premium-touch surface and a tasteful element in styling. As per noise, this hubbub from the road and the wind is well hidden and kept away from its passengers. It holds the capacity to absorb persistent surface degradation. The whole vehicle is very rattle-free.

As per the company’s leaning towards safety, they have included several features so as to showcase their efforts in providing extreme safety during inevitable accidents, crashes, and collisions. Antilock brake systems, or also known as ABS, has been designed so as to assist in maintaining steering control. This system does this by reducing wheel lockup during hard braking on slippery surfaces. The StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System has been added in so as to improve vehicle stability especially on slick surfaces. When this feature senses that the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe is not responding to steering input, it automatically adjusts the engine torque and brake pressure at each wheel so as to assist the driver in getting the Tahoe back on track. Other safety features include Daytime Running Lamps, the OnStar system, the Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children, or LATCH, system, frontal air bags, side-impact airbags, head-curtain side air bags, and front air bags with passenger sensing system.

Other features of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe include bumpers, power doors, black door handles, halogen fog lamps, a luggage rack with center rails, heated mirrors, a rear parking assist, 17-inch aluminum wheels, cargo mats, cargo shades for the third row, a cruise control, climate controls, an electric defogger, a remote keyless entry, an adjusted and tilt wheel steering column, a sunroof, sun visors, temperature control and a theft-deterrent system among many others.

Whether having a journey on extreme conditions or on sleepy town roads, the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe deserves excellent maintenance so as to be able for this vehicle to continuously offer the best functionality and longevity. Maintenance involves taking care of its parts as well as involving replace worn out parts. Worn out parts could jeopardize the health of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and could pose to be a danger for its driver and passengers. Excellent and quality Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet car parts could be found at Auto Parts Discount’s online store. Auto Parts Discount is one of the leading online stores where owners can get guaranteed high quality parts at low prices.

2006 Chevy Impala SS: More Vroom!

Chevy’s flagship car, the Impala, finally has the power to match its heralded name. Ever since the car was redesigned in the late 1990s, the Impala has been more of a pretender than a performer. Now with an optional small block 5.3L V8 added to the mix, the 2006 Chevrolet Impala can go toe to toe with the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger. The changes for the Impala are not all under the hood, Chevy took the time to redo the entire car and they did it with care. Let’s look at some of the changes for 2006.

More Power – A V6 is a great engine, especially in these times of high gas prices. Still, if you opt for a car of the Impala’s size, at least having the option of purchasing a V8 makes sense, doesn’t it? You better believe it. GM has sweetened the deal by plunking in a V8 that incorporates Corvette technology as the engine heads with “their pent–roof combustion chambers and flat–top pistons deliver high horsepower”, this according to Chevrolet’s promotional material. In addition, GM’s “displacement on demand” technology allows the V8 to squeeze out a miserly 28 mpg on the highway [18 mpg city] with computer equipment that shuts down unneeded cylinders at the appropriate time. Cadillac tried this in the early 1980s with its V8-6-4 engine that failed to live up to the job as computing technology then wasn’t what it is today. Fortunately, current GM technology makes this a reality for current models.

Better Looks – When it comes to “looks” beauty is subjective. Yet, previous Impala models had a bit of a pedestrian look to them. In the highly competitive large sedan category, this can easily mean lost sales as the choices for similarly priced, but more aggressive looking cars is strong. All new sheetmetal, a more assertive nose – similar to the Cobalt’s – and updated headlights and tail lights gives the Impala a fresh and assertive look.

More Models – 6 in fact. The return of the “SS” as the signature model should help sales. SS, or “Super Sport” is a term that was originally used for the 1961 Impala and by the mid 60s came to represent each of the performance models in the fleet. The Chevelle, Nova, and Camaro all had that designation then while the Impala, Cobalt, Malibu, and TrailBlazer wear it today.

Improved Interior – If you are going to change the skin and what is found under the hood, you might as well dress up the interior, right? The LTZ model – who the heck knows what that stands for – has heated front bucket seats trimmed in leather. Throw in 8 way power and lumbar support for the driver and you are talking top of the line comfort. On select models new “flip and fold” rear seating is available; side curtain air bags for the front seat is standard on all Impalas; and keyless entry, power windows, tilt wheel, OnStar, cruise control, and a host of other features all come standard on the Impala.

Prices start in the low 20s {US} and climb to nearly 30K {US} for fully loaded SS models. How the SS sells remains to be seen, but its bold, fresh look will certainly appeal to those who previously dismissed the Impala.
